Teaching Our Students about Veterans' Day
This week we celebrate Veterans’ Day! This one is very close to my heart, as I come from a military family myself. Veterans’ are the ones who make the biggest sacrifices in order for every civilian to be safe. They put themselves on the line of fire while fighting for our freedoms and security.
It is important for our students to understand the importance of celebrating and thanking veterans all across the country. They can learn about it from videos (Brainpop Jr. is always a good choice, and there is also a Brainpop in Español). They can also read about it on text. They could write a letter to Veterans they know or those on close by stations or even abroad. They could compare and contrast the five brands of the Armed Forces: ARMY, NAVY, Air Force, Marines, and Coast Guard. They could also complete graphic organizers and/ or create booklets.
